Touring
Designed for: Long Distance Rides, Loaded Touring
Touring bikes are designed to be stronger and more comfortable
over long rides that may include carrying panniers and packs.
While they look much like Race Bikes, true Touring bikes
are different in a number of important ways, including a
longer wheelbase to better distribute weight and more evenly
absorb road shock. Wider rims and tires offer a more comfortable
ride over a greater variety of terrain. And beefier front
forks handle packs and panniers. No one sees the countryside
as well or appreciates the journey as much as a cyclist
on a good touring bike.
Performance
Designed for: Club Rides, Centuries, Criteriums, Triathlons
Race bikes are the fastest bikes between point A and point
B - as long as the road is paved. Designed to be fast, responsive
and aerodynamic, race bikes stretch out the rider for maximum
power, efficiency and comfort on long rides. The extended
riding position engages more of the cyclist's large muscle
groups to optimize strength and endurance. Drop handlebars
offer a variety of riding positions, and narrow, high- pressure
tires minimize rolling resistance.
